Query in the computer center

There are customers who do not allow the public to have access to the productive database via the Internet for operational reasons. They prefer to make a copy of the database which is prepared according to certain criteria (e.g. only completed units of description, only units of description where the protection period has expired, only data elements intended for external use) available to the public on a different database schema with Query. scope offers hosting as a complete solution, i.e. including preparation and import of the database copy.

scopeArchiv in the computer center (ASP Hosting)

The requirements of an archive depend on its size: even small archives want to and have to offer their customers a comprehensive solution. A functionally streamlined “light” version of scopeArchiv can there-fore not be the solution. Small archives often don’t have the resources, however, for their own license and for operating their own server. scope offers these customers the possibility to use “scopeArchiv in the computer center” (Application Service Providing ASP).

With the help of the program Access Essentials from the company Citrix Systems, Inc., a preconfigured set of scopeArchiv modules (System Administration, Units of Description, Descriptors, Containers) are made available via the Internet. The archive has its own database. The user doesn’t actually notice that the application is running “off site”. The entire operation, database setup and product maintenance are taken care of by scope. Billing is very straightforward, the customer simply pays an annual flat fee per user, which covers all services.

To keep costs low, the configurability of ASP hosting is deliberately kept simple and restricted in scale Direct licensing at a later date is possible of course, data transfer is unproblematic.

Deposit of the source code

Together with LLK Treuhand AG, Basel, scope offers the option of signing an escrow agreement. It regulates the handover of the source code including documentation under certain conditions. The administration and issue of program CDs, which are constantly updated and stored at LLK Treuhand AG for each individual customer, is carried out by LLK Treuhand AG.

To ensure optimum transition between document management and archive management (long-term archiving, Records Management), the head of the archive is mostly assigned the task of systematization (nomenclature, data model, interim storage, metadata) and automation in the entire work process.
